BRI PARSHA TIDBITS
""Fire came forth from before the Lord and consumed them."

The death of Aaron's sons occurred due to excessive closeness to Hashem. They desired a revelation of holy light without proper preparation. This was a mistake of being too close to infinite holiness without appropriate vessels, which ultimately cost them their lives.

Rebbe Nachman instructs us in numerous places about the severity of such closeness. In the beginning of Rebbe Nachman's Stories, in the story of the Lost Princess, the Rebbe recounts a king who had a daughter among six sons whom he cherished greatly (see the story in the book for more details).

When reading the tale, it is not immediately clear why the king was angry with her, but all this hints at the issue mentioned before – excessive closeness/light without proper preparation, leading to destruction.

The necessity is that to receive the light, one must be prepared for it through work and accepting being kept at a distance, from which one needs to yearn and wait for closeness. Only then are appropriate vessels built to receive the light.

May it be the Will of Hashem that we merit to be spared from excessive light and truly draw close to Hashem with worthy vessels. Amen.

Shabbat Shalom
