By the Grace of G-d

Dear Mr. Chroman,

We are writing to you today because of a few troubling matters that we're hoping you can help with.

For starters, we're very concerned that the 2020 tax year is coming to a close, literally millions of people are relying on us, and we are still quite a way from covering our budget to help them…! We also know that there are many people like you who would like to take part in this work and have not yet been reached.

But there's more.

We're at a bit of a loss as to how to possibly convey to you the full impact of your partnership.

This past Chanukah, for example, contributions from friends like you helped more than four million people observe and enjoy the holiday on Chabad.org — and internalize its crucial and reassuring message about the ultimate triumph of goodness and light over the dark and the evil.

And during the entire past year — and especially throughout the extraordinary challenges wrought by the pandemic — you and/or others like you helped many tens of millions (!) worldwide enjoy Judaism's spiritual and moral riches, in seven languages, on a scale perhaps never before experienced in history!

This would never, ever be possible if not for people like yourself!

The trouble for us is, however, that these numbers are so fantastic, so large, that the measure of your deep impact on countless individuals — each one a complete world unto himself or herself — can easily be lost. So we thought to tell you about a few of these individuals.

But exactly who of the multitudes should we tell you about?

Do we tell you about teenager Laurie P., who turned to us in a panic when her mother's new boyfriend forced a Christmas tree onto the family's Chanukah celebration this year, and who is now learning about the deeper meaning of Jewish practice together with other Jewish teens?

Do we tell you about frontline health worker Shelly S. who recited the Shema and other final prayers with her dying COVID patients — and turned to us regularly for inspiration to "get through" experiencing the human suffering and loss all around her? (She's unfortunately far from the only one…)

How about Brian T. who lost his only son to COVID and could not be consoled until 1. He learned of the Rebbe's teachings about the soul's continued life on Chabad.org, and 2. Chabad.org arranged for kaddish to be recited for his son?

Maybe Ann L., a Temple Sunday School teacher who, like so many others, struggled to teach anything over Zoom, let alone to a bunch of tweens who expressed their non-stop disinterest in Judaism. Once she started sharing Chabad.org material about Judaism's answers to life's big questions, however, they miraculously lost track of the time and begged her to continue.

Do we tell you about Ryan L. who once had all the money in the world but squandered it on drugs, lost all his friends, and was preparing to commit suicide — until he reached out to us in his zero hour to see whether someone — anyone! — actually cared about him?

Do we tell you about Beth P. who for years found peace and meaning only in India's ashrams, regarding Judaism as a shallow religion — until a complex philosophical conundrum led her to an article on Chabad.org that, in her words, "exposed me to an entirely new dimension of meaning, a depth that I never knew existed"? (Nowadays she emails snippets of her daily Torah learning to her former guru and other Jews.)

How about the couple who just a few days ago reconsidered their COVID-fueled divorce plans in favor of focusing on what they can each do FOR — instead of what they can get FROM —  the other?

Or the parents estranged from their child who've begun the path of reconciliation?

The holocaust survivor who changed his cremation plans to Jewish burial?

Your partnership deeply impacts every single one of them! (But telling you this doesn't even scratch the surface; people are finding help with these matters through Chabad.org daily!)

*

But we haven't even begun telling you about the outsized role your partnership always plays in the life of the teenager, and the college student, and the young professional, and the newly-married couple, and the schoolteacher, and the physician, and the university president, and the author, and the entrepreneur, and the businesswoman, and the communal leader, and the seasoned scholar, and the new parent, and the politically liberal, and the politically conservative, and the financier, and the young child, and the fallen investor, and so many more —

Each of whom reach out regularly with their own moving stories of human frailty and courage and spiritual quest and relationship-mending and scholarly pursuit and moral dilemmas and connections sought to our age-old People and our Torah — plus so much endlessly more!

So at the end it comes to: We actually have no way to convey to you how priceless and crucial is your role in helping each and every person — one by one by one by one...! — to find the guidance or insight or information or inspiration or listening ear they each seek!

[And we've certainly not touched upon the compounded ripple effects of the goodness and kindness "unleashed" across the globe by so many people who tap into the life-affirming reservoir of holiness, moral guidance and deep scholarship (and so much more!) — and feel more spiritually and emotionally satiated and empowered.

The tsunami of goodness and sensitivity and spiritual-attentiveness and selflessness unleashed around the globe by so many people who've themselves been impacted by Chabad.org is really immeasurable — and is yet another result of your partnership.]

*

We are also troubled by knowing that we could reach so many more people, and accomplish so much more, if we'd only have the financial means to do so!

The world is so torn asunder, and many people are still experiencing so much anxiety and aimlessness, so much pain and confusion — and the Torah holds the answers! If we could only make more of it available more quickly to more people in more ways!

*

So how can you help with all this?

Well, for starters you can help keep all this going — and propel its expansion.

You can contribute generously online to our year-end appeal.

If you'd like to express your partnership by sending a check you can do so here:

Chabad.ORG
770 Eastern Parkway Suite 405
Brooklyn, NY 11213

(Needless to say, your donation is tax-deductible.)

Secondly, perhaps you'd like to have a conversation about sponsorship opportunities or planned giving or new levels of partnership or leaving a legacy that could have even broader impact. If this is the case, please press 'reply' so we can set up a time to talk.

Thirdly, perhaps you can suggest to some of your friends to join, too, by forwarding this email to them with your personal recommendation. We are quite certain that there isn't another cause that, dollar for dollar, achieves such far-reaching impact!

And finally: Please keep coming back to the website! Enjoy it, critique it, demand more from it... After all, isn't that the whole point of all this to begin with...?

Please G-d, we look forward to reporting back to you with lots of wonderful news about our partnership and its results.

In the meantime, in the name of the millions of your beneficiaries worldwide, we thank you profusely and look forward to even greater impact — putting your dollars to work in the months to come.

May G-d bless you and yours!

Sincerely,

The Chabad.org Team

P.S. -- We should have almost certainly written the following first, but statistics show we'd immediately lose many people's attention. So, most reluctantly, we finally share the following:

We are concerned about every one of our users. Please let us know if there is anything at all we can do for you!

P.P.S. -- If you are unable to make a contribution, please see this as an invitation to continue and enjoy all our content and resources!
