Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Please Say your Tehillim on Shabbos

BS"D

Dear Aneinu Members,

In this week's parsha, Vayera, we learn the middah of Chesed from Avraham Avinu. The parsha begins by informing us that Hashem appears to Avraham Avinu. In the midst of this prophetic experience, Avraham notices that three men have arrived. He leaves Hashem and runs to take care of his guests.

In the human world, if a person is having an audience with a king he wouldn't dare leave the king to greet some random strangers. How did Avraham know that this was what Hashem wanted him to do? Avraham knew that Hashem's whole purpose in creating the world was to do chesed. Since Avraham's goal was to be like Hashem, he knew Hashem would approve of his doing chesed for these visitors.

Klal Yisroel has learned well from our forefather Avraham.  In every Jewish community around the world, every kind of chesed organization abounds. If there is a need, there is an organization to fill that need. Not only has the Jewish people become renowned for giving charity and doing acts of kindness, we have also taught the world the importance of helping others. The world is a better place because of Avraham Avinu and his children.

Please say your Tehillim this Shabbos. As the days are getting shorter, please remember that it is perfectly fine to say your Tehillim on Friday night. You may check the Shabbos Tehillim spreadsheet if you are unsure which kappitlach you signed up for.
