Please have extra Kavanah (concentration) for the situation in Ukraine.
Sunday, June 19 –
Tehillim 115
The natural reaction of the world at large to the witnessing of miracles is awe of Hashem. Most people would be inspired to come closer to Hashem as a result of seeing a miracle.
In this perek, David HaMelech describes the reaction of scoffers. Scoffers will never be convinced of Hashem. They will always deny the existence of God and question, "Where is God now?" (v.2)
We therefore plead with Hashem, redeem us not for our sake, but for Your sake (v.1). We want the revelation of Hashem to be known to all. When that day comes there will be no more scoffers. The revelation will be so great that the truth will be impossible to deny.
"Our Hashem is in the heaven and does as He pleases" (v.3).
Your 'God' can't speak, see, hear, feel, walk etc. (v.5-7)
These thoughts generate feelings of Emuna and Bitachon in Hashem and cause us to praise and sing to Hashem.
Segula for this perek: For help when entering into a dispute with idolaters. (In truth, it is better not to converse with idolaters…) (From the Sefer Shimush Tehillim attributed to Rav Hai Gaon (969 -1038).)
1. Not for us, Hashem, not for us, but for Your name give honor, for Your kindness and for Your truthfulness.
2. Why should the nations say, "Where is your God now?"
3. But our God is in heaven; whatever He wishes, He does.
4. Their idols are silver and gold, the handiwork of man.
5. They have a mouth but they do not speak; they have eyes but they do not see.
6. They have ears but they do not hear; they have a nose but they do not smell.
7. Their hands-but they do not feel; their feet-but they do not walk; they do not murmur with their throat.
8. Like them shall be those who make them, all who trust in them.
9. Israel, trust in Hashem; He is their help and their shield.
10. House of Aaron, trust in Hashem; He is their help and their shield.
11. Those who fear Hashem, trust in Hashem; He is their help and their shield.
12. Hashem, Who remembered us, will bless; He will bless the house of Israel; He will bless the house of Aaron.
13. He will bless those who fear Hashem, the small together with the great.
14. May Hashem add upon you, upon you and upon your children.
15. Blessed are you to Hashem, the Maker of heaven and earth.
16. The heavens are heavens of Hashem, but the earth He gave to the children of men.
17. Neither will the dead praise God, nor all those who descend to the grave.
18. But we shall bless Hashem from now until everlasting, Halleluyah!
