Daniel Peretz, a resident of Yad Binyamin, who until now was defined as a hostage, was announced today as an IDF soldier who fell during the battle on 7/10.Dear Peretz family, the entire Nahal Sorak community is in pain with you over the terrible disaster. We all prayed and wished for a miracle and share in the unimaginable sorrow for your loss from the bitter news that was symbolically received precisely today, the 7th of Adar - the day of remembrance for the martyrs of the Israeli system whose burial place is not known. May Daniel's soul be bundled in the bundle of life. Details regarding the funeral and swearing will be provided later**************From Matzav.comThe Israeli Defense Forces officially announced on Sunday that Captain Daniel Perez, 22, hailing from Yad Binyamin, was killed on October 7th, with his remains currently held by the Hamas terror group in the Gaza Strip.
Captain Perez served as a platoon commander within the 78th Battalion of the 7th Formation.
He was the son of Rabbi Doron Perez, CEO of the World Mizrachi movement.
Arrangements are being made for his funeral, scheduled for tomorrow.
Rabbi Danny Mirvis, the Acting CEO of World Mizrachi, expressed, "Throughout these past 163 days, our prayers have been fervent for better tidings. The unwavering strength exhibited by the Perez family has been a beacon of inspiration for us all. Our collective prayers for Daniel's safety have now transitioned into global wishes for solace."
Rabbi Mirvis further reflected, "The heartbreaking news arrives on the 7th of Adar, coinciding with the yahrzeit of Moshe Rabbeinu, whose final resting place remains unknown. This date has thus become emblematic of mourning for all whose gravesites are unidentified. Just as we've relentlessly prayed for Daniel's safe return thus far, our prayers persist for his reunion with a proper Jewish burial site."
He concluded with a heartfelt plea, "May Hashem grant solace to Rabbi Doron, Shelley, and their entire family, alongside all mourners of Zion and Jerusalem, and may we witness the safe return of every hostage."
Yaakov Hagoel, Chairman of the World Zionist Organization, conveyed his deep sorrow, remarking, "I received with profound sadness the distressing news of Captain Daniel Perez's fate, the son of Rabbi Doron Perez, a valued member of the World Zionist Organization's leadership and head of its spiritual services division for the Diaspora. Daniel has now been officially recognized as a casualty of the IDF, having fallen in combat on October 7th. My heartfelt condolences go out to my dear friend Rabbi Doron Perez and his family, who have displayed unwavering hope even in the darkest of times."
Addressing a gathering in Tel Aviv on Motzoei Shabbos, Rabbi Perez directed a plea to the Israeli government, stating, "There exists no simpler or clearer covenant between a government and its citizens than the imperative to safeguard their lives. After 164 days, with 134 hostages still in captivity, we implore you – these are humanitarian cases. Bring them home without delay!"
He continued, directing an appeal to the President of the United States, "While we are grateful for your steadfast support, I urge you to prioritize the humanitarian cause. The fate of 134 individuals – children, parents, grandparents – hangs in the balance within Gaza. Their return must be unconditional. There can be no bargaining over human lives; as Jews, it is our moral duty to effect their safe return through humanitarian means. Each hostage, taken from their homes in defense of their people, deserves to be reunited with their families without preconditions."
Shira Perez, Daniel's sister, shared poignant sentiments, revealing, "Among his belongings returned to us was Daniel's personal diary, shedding light on facets of his character less familiar to us. He expressed a profound realization of the necessity for a Jewish homeland and the duty to defend it, particularly after visiting the concentration camps in Poland. He wrote, 'If not me, then who?' Daniel, I cherish you deeply, and my longing for your return knows no bounds. I implore the Government of Israel to expedite your return, alongside all hostages, without exception."
