Another great shiur on Chanukah last night Rabbi Yosef Dov Danzinger,the Rav of the HOC Shul in Southbend Indiana gave us a powerful shiur on Chanukah -Ba'yomim Ha'hame, B'zman Ha'zah. The shiur was titled: Flame of the Chashmonaim: An Eternal Story CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE SHIUR Rabbi Danzinger explained how the Maccabeem were frum,erhlich, shomer Torah u'mitzvos in a society that was going downhill quickly.The point finally came where they had no choice but to fight-girls could not get married, brissim weren't allowed,etc .For them, to even fathom of being victorious was ludicrous-they had no army, were not fighters. they were willing to die on Kiddush Hashem.... and we know the rest of the story. But when they were fighting-they were fighting to get back all the glory of the Yidden, to get back to the situation that they could learn, keep Torah and mitzvos to the 100% degree.And Hashem helped them and made nissim for them. Rabbi Danzinger expalined, just as Hashem made nissim for them, so too we see that we are living in a time, where Hashem is making nissim for us as well. There is much for us to learn from the story of chanukah that applies to our lives today. Rabbi Danzinger spoke about beautiful tefilos to say before we light the menorah.
