Subject: Chanukah Message

Dear Mrs. Chroman, The lights of Chanukah are unique. While most lights brighten the inside of our homes, Chanukah lights are meant to illuminate beyond our doors—to inspire the world outside. Traditionally, menorahs were lit outdoors, spreading the story of the miracle far and wide. This Talmudic practice of pirsumei nisa—publicizing the miracle—reminds us that light isn't meant to be hidden; it's meant to be shared. When we display the Chanukah lights publicly, we declare to the world that even in the darkest times, Hashem's presence and light are with us. In the days before electric lights, lamplighters walked the streets with a long pole to ignite each gas lamp one by one. Just like those lamplighters, we too are tasked with bringing light to spaces that might otherwise remain dark. Chanukah challenges us to become spiritual lamplighters—to spread warmth, clarity, and hope wherever we go. This is the mission of the Jewish people: to actively illuminate the world. To be the light. At Mesivta, this mission comes alive every day. Our students immerse in Torah and spiritual growth—not just for their own sake, but to become leaders, educators, and inspirers. They become modern-day lamplighters, building communities, running Chabad houses, and spreading the light of Torah, even in the face of adversity. The recent Kinus Hashluchim highlighted the transformative impact of Mesivta. Among the many inspiring moments, one stood out to me: Mesivta graduates Rabbi Levi Duchman, Chief Rabbi of the UAE, and Rabbi Mendy Kotlarsky, a global outreach leader, addressing thousands of fellow shluchim. Their work is living proof that the light ignited at Mesivta continues to grow, reaching every corner of the world. And this impact is only possible because of your support.
