"Anything that comes through fire, you shall pass through fire…" (Bamidbar 31:23) The world is full of fire—desires that tempt, entice, and trip us up again and again. The heart burns with negative urges. So… what do we do? Rebbe Nachman, in Likutey Moharan Torah 156, gives us a simple, accessible piece of advice—drawn directly from this week's Parshah: If your heart is burning with something negative, ignite it for something holy. Speak to HaShem. Take the fire in your heart and channel it—talk to God, let the warmth come out of your mouth in words, in pleading, in honest begging. This is how the heart shifts—from the force of impurity to the power of holiness. The main thing is to ignite the heart in hitbodedut. Look at what came from David HaMelech's hitbodedut—Sefer Tehillim! We all have the ability to do this, and in this upside-down world full of illusions, this is truly the call of the hour. When we merit to invest the fire of the heart into prayer and supplication to HaShem, we are granted what David himself prayed for: "Create in me a pure heart, O God…" Shabbat Shalom |
