Public Safety Update | | | | Dear Neighbor,
The police have notified me that there was a shooting in our neighborhood yesterday on the 7200 block of N Oakley. Suspects were attempting to steal the victim's catalytic converter when he confronted them. There was an exchange of gunfire and the victim was shot two times. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital in fair condition.
If you have any information about this incident, please call the 24th District Police to report it at 312-744-5907.
We have been seeing an increase in catalytic converter thefts across the North Side, and this is the second time in the last few weeks that a victim was shot while trying to stop his catalytic converter from being stolen. If you are the victim of a crime, please call 911. Do not try to stop the thieves yourself. Your belongings are not worth your life.
If your catalytic converter has been stolen, please call the police and file a report. The more data the police have about where and when these thefts are occurring, the more tools they have to catch those responsible.
This is an ongoing investigation. I will update you when more information is available.
