Dear Friends, Our hearts are broken with unimaginable grief and sorrow over the events of the past few days in Israel. We continue to Daven to Hashem that He have compassion on His people. We ask Him to heal the wounded, protect the IDF soldiers and residents of Israel, comfort the bereaved, return the captives, mend the broken hearts and bring peace to the world. We are davening for a Refuah Shleimah for all of the injured soldiers and civilians, including Yosef Roi ben Chana, R' Yossi Urim, who served as a Kollel Torah Mitzion Shaliach here from 2004-2007. He was seriously injured outside of their home in Sderot and is recovering from surgery. We are in awe of the incredible, heroic soldiers of Israel, including many of our Kollel's alumni who are serving in posts across Israel. I want to just share an important update on what our Kollel has been and is currently doing to support our brothers and sisters in Israel. - We have begun a special daily video Torah series: Torat Am Yisrael to increase our Torah learning and deepen our connection to the people of Israel. All of this Torah is available on our YouTube page: youtube.com/kollel613
- Our Kollel attended yesterday's JUF rally in support of Israel together with many of our alumni, who serve as Rabbis and educators across our community.
- We are creating a lawn sign campaign for our entire Chicagoland community highlighting our support of Israel. Signs will be available at the end of this week bezH. Special thanks to R' Turoff and Marc Halpert for their efforts in this project.
- We had special learning at this week's Talmud Tuesday focused on the centrality of Israel.
- We are organizing an evening of unity, Mitzvot, Torah study, and healing together with the greater Skokie Jewish community on Monday evening, October 16.
- I represented our Kollel at the Chabad rally for Israel this week and have been working to raise Israel awareness publicly and online.
- We are adjusting this week's Skokie Shabbaton due to the current reality and our Friday night Oneg will now be a Shevet Achim Leil Shira hosted by Michael and Dinah Shiner, 4301 Dempster Street.
- We will host a Vatikin Minyan morning of Tefillah this Friday morning on Lake Michigan with Tehillim.
- NILI is working on organizing a Challah Bake in the coming weeks.
- We will be leading an Erev Shabbat Chizuk Kumzitz for the students of ICJA.
Last night, I shared a personal perspective on the current situation; our learning was in memory of Avraham Leib and Dena Chana Lubin. Please feel welcome to listen and share your thoughts with me: Click here to listen. We must all continue to Daven, add to our regular commitment of Torah and Mitzvot, and reach out to our elected officials in support of Israel. May Hashem answer our prayers and bring us days of consolation and redemption. Sincerely, |
