| Agudath Israel of Illinois, along with our coalition partners, participated in a press conference today at St. Agnes School. The majority of our community's schools were represented at the rally, along with hundreds of other students and their families from across the state, creating an incredibly strong presence. After some opening remarks, the rally kicked off with stories from parents and children who currently receive STC, and their pleas for lawmakers to extend the program. A march to Senator Celina Villanueva's office followed the event, with hundreds of people parading with signs in support of the act.
The rally attracted significant media attention, and Agudath Israel will be sharing their coverage in the coming days. "We have been carefully listening to lawmakers and have offered a compromise proposal that incorporates their suggestions." stated Rabbi Shlomo Soroka, director of government affairs for AIOI, "Now it is time for those lawmakers to listen to the thousands of children across the state that rely on this program." STC is currently set to expire at the end of 2023. The future of the program will likely be determined in the coming weeks during the upcoming legislative Veto Session. |
