October 20, 2023 - 5 Cheshvan 5784 It's almost two weeks since Hamas abducted some 200 hostages, and we continue to daven each day for their safety and well-being, as well as that of the Israeli soldiers, those injured, and the families of the niftarim. This Sunday, 7 Cheshvan, marks the 90th yartzeit of Rav Meir Shapiro zt"l. Among his countless other accomplishments, Rav Shapiro is known for founding Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin and instituting Daf Yomi, both suggested at Agudas Yisroel's first Knessiah Gedolah in 1923/5683 - 100 years ago.  Abraham Zylberberg, was a photographer who took numerous pictures of daily life in Lublin before the war. This picture, and many others, were found in an attic decades after the war, printed on sheets of glass. It depicts Rav Shapiro with the scaled model of the Bais Hamikdash that Rav Shapiro commissioned for the Yeshiva. Artist Chanoch Weintraub studied extensively to make sure that every detail of the model matched the Torah's description. Rav Shapiro was niftar on 7 Cheshvan 5694, after contracting typhus.
