Introduction
The prohibition of bribing a Dayan is well-known. The Poskim extend this prohibition to all public officials, and perhaps to those voting on a public matter. In general, there are several views in halachah on the topic of self-dealing and kickbacks.
Points to Ponder
• If one knows he is biased on a certain matter, can he still vote in a public election?
• Does the prohibition of giving bribes apply to non-Jewish officials and judges?
• Can an employee take action or vote on a company matter that will provide a side benefit for him or his family?
• Is a kickback permitted if there is no loss to the client?
