Strengthening Torah Life. Advocating for the Community. Serving Each Individual. | | May 16, 2021 - 5 Sivan 5781 News from the Agudah:
- This morning, the Agudah shared a letter about the situation in Eretz Yisroel. Reiterating the importance of advocacy (see the next paragraph), it mainly focused on the ruchnios aspects of our avodah at times like these, based on guidance from the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah. Please see below. As far as advocacy is concerned...
- ...while our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisroel are under attack, as Hamas and other terrorist organizations are firing thousands of missiles into the heart of the country, it is critical that we tell our representatives in Congress how important it is to us that they support Israel, support its right to defend itself, and reject Hamas terror. Go to Agudah.org/TellCongress - it takes only two or three minutes. Thousands of you have already done this - but thousands have not. Please, please, do it now. See below for more details.
- May we all have a good Yom Tov, and may we return, after it is over, to good tidings.
| | Our Response to Events in Eretz Yisroel – Erev Shavuos 5781 | | In light of the current situation in Eretz Yisroel, Agudath Israel of America has undertaken a major advocacy effort urging our elected officials to stand by Israel at this dangerous time. We thank all who have already reached out to their senators and congressmembers, and we urgently call upon our constituents across the United States to participate in this important advocacy campaign.
At the same time, as ma'aminim b'nei ma'aminim, firm believers that all is in the Hands of Hashem, we know that the main address toward Whom we must direct our advocacy efforts is Hakadosh Boruch Hu. Eileh vorechev v'eileh va'susim, when our enemies assault us with barrages of deadly rockets, va'anachnu b'sheim Hashem Elokeinu nazkir, our response is to call out to Hashem – and when we do, heimah kar'u v'nofolu va'anachnu kamnu va'nisodad, our adversaries are vanquished and we stand strengthened. Clearly, now is a time when we must intensify our tefillah, beseeching the King of Kings to have mercy on His children, Klal Yisroel, and deliver us from the hands of our enemies.
Several years ago, when our brothers and sisters in Eretz Yisroel were facing an onslaught of murderous terror attacks, the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of America issued a heartfelt plea calling upon Jews to strengthen themselves in tefillah, with increased levels of concentration and sincerity.
In particular, the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah emphasized the importance of davening with a minyan; coming on time for Shacharis and saying the entirety of Psukei D'zimrah; avoiding talking during tefillah and Krias HaTorah; and, for both men and women, reciting three chapters of Tehillim – 83 (Shir mizmor l'Asaf), 130 (Shir hama'alos mi'ma'amakim), and 142 (Maskil l'Dovid).
Now, as then, the power of tefillah is incalculable.
As we stand at the threshold of Zman Matan Toraseinu, when we renew our special bond with the Nosein HaTorah, let us pour out our hearts and storm the heavens with our prayers. The Shomei'a Tefillah is waiting. | | URGE CONGRESS TO STAND BY ISRAEL AT THIS MOMENT OF GRAVE DANGER | | If you would like to download this graphic to share with your friends and family you can do so by clicking here. | | Dear Agudah Activist:
We have all been following the daily, even hourly, reports coming from Israel. And they are absolutely terrifying.
Our dear brothers and sisters are victims of thousands of rockets fired by Hamas and other terror groups into the heart of the country, resulting in rising deaths and casualties. President Biden has condemned these attacks and expressed support for Israel's security and its right to defend itself. We are grateful for that support and for the backing of so many in Congress and of other elected officials.
Tragically, however, there are those in both the political world and in the media that justify Hamas's terror while condemning Israel's retaliation. But there is no "moral equivalency" here. Hamas is firing at innocents, while Israel protects its citizens. Hamas rejects the very existence of Israel, while Israel has reached out to all in the Arab world seeking peace.
At this dangerous moment, it is critical for Congress to use its powerful voice and act as a beacon of support for our ally, Israel, as it is facing such grave danger. They must speak out loudly and without equivocation.
STAND BY ISRAEL, SUPPORT ITS RIGHT TO DEFEND ITSELF, REJECT HAMAS TERROR
Please do this today and, as we continue to daven to the Ribbono Shel Olam, may calm be restored to Artzeinu Hakedoshah.
