Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Caution! Children using Segways
I was asked to post this:
There are many children in the neighborhood using Segways, with and without helmets, in the streets, crossing streets. Today a boy rode into an intersection at top speed as I was turning, and to be honest I had to slam on my breaks. The cross walk sign was red.
When using the pedestrian cross walk, it's assumed you're going at pedestrian speed. I most definitely look to see if people are crossing, but a Segway can move faster than an average running adult. An adult would pause while running into an intersection.
Please please please educate your children.
This particular boy was wearing a helmet, white shirt, traveling north on California crossing Touhy around 4pm. If it could be your child, please let them know how dangerous it was.
