P-EBT On the Way! | | Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students who normally get free or reduced price school meals at school may be eligible for a program to help families buy groceries. This program is called Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT). Our Kiwi Kids Department has been working hard with the schools, families and appropriate government agencies to help ensure that this over $1,000,000 of funding reaches the families of our community. For each day that eligible schoolchildren lack access to an in-school lunch, P-EBT provides eligible families with $6.82 in benefits per student, per day. These benefits are provided on a card that can be used like a debit card to purchase food at any grocery store that accepts EBT cards. Stores that accept EBT cards include Kol Tuv Kosher Foods, Romanian Kosher Sausage, Sarah's Tent (formerly Hungarian Kosher Foods) and Tel Aviv Kosher Bakery. Children that qualify for free or reduced meals and were enrolled in the following schools for the 2020-2021 school year, are receiving P-EBT benefits:
- Cheder Lubavitch Hebrew Day School
- Cheder Lubavitch Girls
- Joan Dachs Bais Yaakov
- Telshe Yeshiva
- Yeshiva Ohr Boruch
- Yeshivas Tiferes Tzvi
| | - P-EBT benefits are issued for days when the child lacked access to an in-school meal.
- Each child will receive their own card with their name on it.
- Cards are starting to arrive in the mail today. They will arrive in an unmarked envelope so please be on the lookout.
- Families should hold onto their P-EBT card(s) because future benefits will be loaded onto the same card.
- P-EBT benefits will be retroactive to the start of the 2020-2021 school year based on the child's attendance record.
| | CHILD CARE P-EBT BENEFITS: In addition to providing P-EBT benefits for children enrolled in school, there is also a Child Care P-EBT benefits program. Child Care Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) provides benefits to eligible children in a SNAP household.
Who is eligible for Child Care P-EBT benefits? A child must meet the following criteria to be eligible for Child Care P-EBT: - Must have been under the age of 6 as of 10/01/2020.
- Must have been a member of a household that received SNAP benefits between the months of October 2020 and June 2021. Only the benefit months where the child is a part of an approved SNAP household will be reviewed for Child Care P-EBT eligibility.
- Must have lived in an area in Illinois where at least one school qualified for P-EBT benefits. For October through March 2021, the entire State of Illinois meets this qualification. Eligible areas for the April-June 2021 will be determined and published in August 2021.
- The child did not receive School P-EBT Benefits for the same month.
I have been receiving weekly KiwiKids food boxes. Can I still receive P-EBT? Yes, children and teens can still receive free meals from community sites AND get P-EBT, too – they are separate programs. | | | | | | |
