Subject: [chicago-aneinu] Please Say your Tehillim on Shabbos - Message
BS"D
Dear Aneinu Members,
Dear Aneinu Members,
This Shabbos is Shabbos Nachamu, a day on which we rejoice in Hashem's love for us, and in His promise that the Bais Hamikdash will once again be rebuilt and we will all return to Yerushalayim. "Nachamu, nachamu, ami - Be consoled, my nation (Isaiah 40:1). The Haftorah goes on to say that our exile has been fulfilled and our sins expiated. The glory of Hashem will be revealed and all flesh will see that the mouth of Hashem has spoken. Hashem is pictured as a shepherd who lovingly holds his lambs in His arms. A shepherd constantly protects and guides his sheep, making sure that they have green pastures to graze in and clean water to drink. This is how we are supposed to picture Hashem whose eyes are always lovingly upon us, the apple of His eye.
This Shabbos is also Tu B'Av, the day on which the men in the Midbar ceased dying after the sin of the spies. Generations later, it was on Tu B'Av that the ban on the tribes inter-marrying was lifted. Every year on Tu B'Av the single women would go out to the fields wearing each other's dresses, so that the poor girls would not be embarrassed if their own clothing was shabby. They would dance in the vineyards and the single men would go there to find their match. Rav Tzadok of Lublin taught that the Bais Hamikdash will be rebuilt on Tu B'Av and the Talmud considers it the greatest moed of the year. Tu B'Av is a day of celebration, but most importantly, the theme of the day is achdus. Just as the tribes could once again inter-marry, and just as the young women shared their dresses to protect the dignity of the poor, it should be a day for us of focusing on treating our fellow Jews with love and respect. This is how we can heal our nation and ensure the rebuilding of the Bais Hamikdash, and then we will see the fruition of the words, "Nachamu, nachamu, ami."
Please remember to say your Tehillim on Shabbos. You may check the Shabbos Tehillim spreadsheet if you are unsure which kappitlach you signed up for.
Wishing you all a beautiful Shabbos Nachamu,
Chaya Miriam
