Dear Friends,
Today was about showing love and support for our soldiers and their families.
Tonight we hosted a bbq (Thanksgiving dinner??) for reservist soldiers serving in Chevron. Dozens of Chayalim from the army and border police stationed locally joined for a dinner filled with delicious food, great conversation and music outside of Mearat Hamachpela.
It was a particularly gratifying joy to deliver special cosmetic and fashion gifts to the female soldiers. These gifts were donated in memory of Rose Lubin zt"l Hy"d (Chaim Lubin's cousin) with whom many of the soldiers we met had trained when they entered the border patrol and were moved when they saw her picture on the gifts.
It was also remarkable and inspiring to meet and hear from Eliyahu Libman, whose son (אליקים שלמה בן אבישג) is currently held captive.
The morning was more somber. After speaking to the YU students at the Kotel it was a time to mourn, with visits to three bereaved families sitting shiva.
First to the Friedman family to sit with Shachar zt"l Hy'd's parents and three sisters, listening to them describe his kindness to others. He was a bright, strong, good-looking young man who always sought out ways to help others (notably a young man with special needs in his high school class).
Then to the Dishon family, whose son Dvir zt"l Hy"d, the oldest of five boys, was a brilliant and wonderful aspiring young man who loved Torah; his Rosh Yeshiva and Rabbeim were present at the shiva describing his special qualities.
Finally to the family of Yakir Bitton zt"l Hy"d whose wife and three children are left behind without their father. His wife described their beautiful marriage and the way they connected on such a deep level.
Being able to personally deliver a package to a lone soldier from Chicago was the final highlight of the day.
Seeing the non-stop Chesed happening in Israel now is truly inspiring. It is an honor to play a tiny part in it.
Best wishes for Besurot Tovot for Am Yisrael,
