Dear Friends,
Today was another day filled with hands-on Avodat Hashem.
It began with a trip to the Rami Levi supermarket to buy soda, chips and snacks and then to the nearby bakery for fresh rugelach. En route to their intended destination (a Duvedevan army base in Gush Etzion), these treats made stops at the checkpoints and found several soldiers happy to receive them. We made sure to deliver the letters we brought to the soldiers, who shared their appreciation.
Visiting the base was incredible, with many soldiers sharing their stories and experiences, including the cook who gave us a tour of the base kitchen. The officer in charge, Yarden, saved the snacks and drinks for tonight Lichvod Shabbat.
The next stop was Modiin to visit the families of Shlomo Gortobnick zt"l Hy"d and Gal Mishaeloff zt"l Hy"d, who fell in Gaza in recent days. Each shiva was unique. Shlomo was from a family of Russian immigrants, a combat medic, and Gal was a humble commander.
After a quick stop at a carnival for evacuees at the Plaza hotel, our next destination was the Shaare Tzedek hospital, where we visited with wounded soldiers and delivered snacks to children in the pediatric ward.
Finally, delivering flowers to Jon Polin, our Chicago native, and family for Shabbat was a special privilege. #BringThemHome
Shabbat Shalom from Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh,
