Rabbi Yaakov Sussman
Marbitz Torah Award
HTC is proud to present the Marbitz Torah Award to Rabbi Yaakov Sussman in recognition of his 30 years of Harbatzas HaTorah at HTC. Rabbi Sussman's journey to Chicago began in 1989 when he and his rebbetzin Shira moved to Chicago to join the Chicago Community Kollel. From 1993-1996 Rabbi Sussman taught 6th grade in Arie Crown Hebrew Day School and in 1994 our Yeshiva was fortunate to welcome Rabbi Sussman who began learning in our beis midrash during afternoon seder. In 1996 he became a 10th grade Rebbe in Fasman Yeshiva High School and after a few short years, Rabbi Sussman transitioned to serve as a Rosh Yeshiva-Maggid Shiur in HTC's Beis Midrash and College program, where he taught an advanced Talmud shiur for the next 23 years.
n addition to his dynamic Gemara shiur, Rabbi Sussman is renowned for his classes based on the Maharal and has been a longtime instructor of Jewish Philosophy at HTC's Max Bressler School of Advanced Hebrew Studies, both at HTC and the Sarah Hartman Women's College of Touro. In 2021, Rabbi Sussman returned to the high school to teach the advanced 12th grade Gemara shiur.
Throughout his tenure as a rebbe, Rabbi Sussman developed lifelong relationships with his talmidim, leaving an indelible impact on hundreds of students who have benefited from his wisdom and guidance. Rabbi Sussman continues to inspire the community as a gifted lecturer, speaking throughout the Chicagoland area, most notably at the intensive Amud Yomi shiur at the Chicago Center for Torah & Chesed.
Daniel & Jessie Lefton
L'Dor V'Dor - Distinguished Parents Award
HTC is honored to present the L'Dor V'Dor – Distinguished Parents Award to Daniel and Jessie Lefton. Hailing from St. Louis, MO, the Leftons' multigenerational bond with our Yeshiva began with Daniel's father, Rabbi Jerome Lefton z"l, who earned his Semicha at HTC in 1960 and studied under esteemed Roshei Yeshiva: Rabbi Mendel Kaplan, Rabbi Hertzel Kaplan, Rabbi Chaim Regensburg, and Rabbi Moshe Wernick. Daniel continued this legacy, attending HTC's Beis Midrash program from 1992-1995, where he learned from Roshei Yeshiva Rabbi Avraham Friedman, Rabbi Shlomo Morgenstern, Rabbi Zev Cohen, Rabbi Yehoshua Levinson zt"l, and Rabbi Zvi Teller zt"l.
In 2013, the next generation of Leftons entered HTC as Daniel and Jessie enrolled their eldest son, Sam (FYHS '17), at Fasman Yeshiva High School. Their commitment continued as they enrolled their three younger sons: Josh (FYHS '19), Jack (FYHS '22), and Ari (FYHS '25), who will graduate this spring.
Daniel and Jessie exemplify true Yeshiva parents, deeply devoted to HTC's mission. Whether joining a dinner committee, hosting Yeshivas HaKayitz meetings, or cheering at a basketball game, they are fully invested in their sons' growth and the Yeshiva. They are tireless advocates, ready to lend their support whenever called upon.
Outside of HTC, Daniel balances his law practice with community work and storytelling, while Jessie is a beloved preschool teacher and director at Epstein Hebrew Academy in St. Louis. Their dedication is an inspiration to all of us at HTC.
