Themes of Hope with Dr. Yael Ziegler
It was a privilege and pleasure to be able to talk to Dr. Ziegler to help get us in the right frame of mind for Tisha B'Av.
We of course discussed Yael's new book 𝙇𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨: 𝙁𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙏𝙪𝙧𝙗𝙪𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙, that Megillat Eikha is the perfect tool to frame Tisha B'Av, and how the format of the Megilla purposely makes us uneasy to convey a sense of lacking.
But we also spoke about using experiences available to us to gain a sense of true loss and enhance our mourning and we found themes of hope from Tisha B'Av itself to carry us from Av, through Elul, and into the Yamim Noraim.
By interweaving careful literary analysis with attention to religious themes Dr. Ziegler, in 𝙇𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨: 𝙁𝙖𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙏𝙪𝙧𝙗𝙪𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙, illustrates that Eikha is a testimony to the resilient faith of humans, who can persevere through adversity, emerging with a more meaningful relationship with God, with the nation, and with themselves.
