"And you shall answer and say before HaShem your G-d…" (Devarim 26:5) The Torah teaches that the expression of gratitude had to be said aloud - and this is a lesson for life: when HaShem grants you something good, thank Him out loud. The mitzvah of bikkurim (bringing the first fruits) was performed each year when the new fruits began to ripen. The owner was required to bring those first fruits to the Beis HaMikdash and thank HaShem out loud. From this we must learn how important it is to thank HaShem for all the good He bestows upon us - not only in thought, but to actually say it aloud, to answer and declare it with our mouths. In recent years, we have seen how many obstacles arise each year in the effort to reach Uman for Rosh HaShanah. Rebbe Nachman said: "Whoever was with me for Rosh HaShanah has reason to rejoice very, very greatly." We must thank HaShem aloud for having merited to be there, and continue to pray for the future - that we should be able to come again, without any obstacles or conflicts. Shabbat Shalom |
