"Those who are here with us today… and those who are not with us today…" (Devarim 29:14) Reb Noson often uses this verse to remind us that although Rebbe Nachman's words were spoken in his time, their primary intent is for "those who are not here" - meaning, for the later generations, for our generation. We can understand this with a parable: In the past, when a letter had to be delivered from one country to another, runners would pass it from one to the next, each carrying it a part of the way, until it finally reached its destination and was handed to the intended recipient. So too, the message of Rebbe Nachman has been passed from generation to generation - from the leaders of Breslov to the next - but the message itself was meant specifically for us, for the final generation. We are the true recipients. Until now, all those before us were like the runners who carried the message. Only in our generation can we truly begin to grasp how deep and lofty Rebbe Nachman's teachings are - teachings powerful enough to lift each and every one of us from wherever we may be, and bring us back to HaShem. May we all merit - through the merit of our holy Rebbe and through Rosh HaShanah, to which he commanded us to come to him for the sake of the world's rectification - to fulfill this message, and to see the Geulah very soon.
