Every evening, across the eight lights of Chanukah, we will shine a light on a first responder. A seemingly ordinary individual: a farmer, a laborer, a neighbor,  who left a place of refuge and ran into danger to protect a brother or sister and defend a community. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Each Night

One Light

One Story

One Act of Courage

Dear Friends,

You are among the thousands who participated in our IDF Heroes: Legacy of Lights campaign our collective effort to inspire, uplift, and preserve the enduring legacy of those who fell in defense of Medinat Yisrael and Am Yisrael on October 7th and in the days that followed was deeply felt. Together, we honored their memory by sharing their words and final messages, paired with probing reflections from rabbis, educators, and communal leaders across North America. That campaign reached and moved tens of thousands, transforming grief into purpose and memory into mission.

As a continuation of this sacred work, and in the spirit of the upcoming holiday of Chanukah, we will be spearheading a new film series honoring heroes who don't wear a uniform. Every evening, across the eight lights of Chanukah, we will shine a light on a first responder. A seemingly ordinary individual: a farmer, a laborer, a neighbor,  who left a place of refuge and ran into danger to protect a brother or sister and defend a community. Each story will be told with dignity, depth, and inspiration. They are present day Maccabees who's fearless dedication to the Jewish people bring light into the world.

What is the call to action? In truth, it is self-evident. Each of us carries the potential to be a first responder -  to a person, a moment, a need. It does not always require lifting a weapon. More often, it means lifting a hand, extending kindness, stepping forward when it would be easier to step away.

In the coming days, we will continue to share insights into this Chanukah campaign. Our hope is simple yet profound: that the light of these modern-day Maccabees ignites an inner flame within all of us.
