A short Insight into SHMUEL 2, Chapter 4 By Rabbi Nisson Dov Miller
(PLEASE LEARN FOR A REFUA SHELAMA FOR HARAV YOSEF SHALOM BEN CHAYA MUSHA)
In our chapter, Reichav and Ba'anah stealthfully execute King Ish – Boshes while asleep in bed. They bring his head to King David expecting to see the King full of joy at the defeat of his rival. However, King David views this as the murder of an innocent man He thus has Reichav and Ba'anah executed and hanged. Then the chapter concludes, “Then they took the head of Ish Boshes and buried [it] in Avner's tomb in Chevron.”
On the surface it would seem strange that Ish Boshes' head would be buried in Avner's tomb. After all, the Shulchan Aruch (Y.D. 262 ,6) reads, “Two people who hate each other should not be buried together.”
