A short Insight into SHMUEL 2, Chapter 5 By Rabbi Nisson Dov Miller
(PLEASE LEARN FOR A REFUA SHELAMA FOR HARAV YOSEF SHALOM BEN CHAYA MUSHA)
Verse four in our chapter reads, “David was thirty years old when he began to reign; he ruled for forty years...”
Is there significance in the fact that King David began his reign at age thirty?
R' Yehuda Hachasid (Sefer Hachasidim 504) gives us a glimpse into the depths and vastness of Hashem's judgment.
He explains that Yehuda, son of Yaakov Avinu, was ultimately responsible for the sale of Yosef. Thus, Yehuda was responsible for the delay in Yosef finding a wife until he was thirty years old. Therefore, David, Yehuda's descendant, did not reign until he was thirty years old.
