YWN Update on R’ Elyashiv (15:40 IL)

Rav Benny Fischer of Magen L’Cholim has just exited the 10th floor cardiac intensive care unit room of Maran Posek HaDor HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita and he reports that once again, the medical team treating the posek hador is using the word “stable” in regard to his condition. Rav Fischer explains there was an attempt to remove the rav from the mechanical respirator, but after a few hours, his condition compelled a return to the assisted respirations and in essence, the rav’s condition is the same as it was on Sunday morning, 19 Shevat 5772. Rabbi Fischer stresses that using terms as deterioration” are incorrect and the rav is in the same condition as a number of hours ago. Advertise On YWN » Rav Shlomo Kook, an official spokesman for Rav Elyashiv’s residence confirmed that a number of hours ago doctors succeeded in removing the rav from the respirator but after a few hours it became evident the rav is unable to continue breathing spontaneously, requiring the mechanically assisted ventilations. Rav Kook explains that the need to reconnect R’ Elyashiv resulted in a measure of concern and the report of Rav Fischer, that R’ Elyashiv remains in the same condition as earlier is indeed accurate. “The simcha was a bit premature and there is yet a very very long road ahead” explains Rav Kook. At this time, many yeshivos have interrupted learning schedules and tehillim are being recited.
