Dear Friends,
Another incredible day bH.
After Vasikin davening at the Kotel we began our day as a full group with the YU students listening to profoundly moving, inspiring and heart-wrenching words from Rav Doron Perez. Rav Perez, Executive Chairman of World Mizrachi, is the father of a soldier who was wounded in the recent massacre and a second son, דניאל שמעון, who is being held hostage. He shared his perspective on life - both personal and communal - during these difficult days.
He also launched our Tehillim for Hostages WhatsApp program with a video. To join the group, please click here to join.
We left Yerushalayim and drove to Beit Shemesh where we packed food (deli sandwiches and beef jerky) for soldiers with Ezrat Achim.
We then hosted a lunch for chayalim at the Lachish IDF base. We personally delivered scores of letters from the members of our community to reservist paratroopers, who shared their gratitude. Just imagine for a moment your Chicago Rosh Kollel in his white shirt and blue tie speaking to a cafeteria packed with soldiers about how much our Chicago community and Jews worldwide love, support and stand with them now. They responded with a spontaneous "Am Yisrael Chai!"
We stopped next at a local roadside nursery, where we bought potted plants to deliver to the patients we would meet at Tel Hashomer hospital. We visited with injured IDF soldiers and their families in the rehabilitation section of the hospital, bringing words of love, chizuk and a few songs.
We headed back south, with a stop in Modiin. Thank you to our many Chicago Olim, who organized a beautiful Torah get-together. Finally, it was an honor to lead singing and Torah teaching at Yeshiva Sha'alvim with a special war-time learning program for our YU students, Sha'alvim Israeli and American students and the Sderot Yeshivat Hesder students, which is currently housed at Sha'alvim.
May Hashem continue to bless our Avodat Hakodesh and send Bracha and Hatzlacha to all of Am Yisrael.
