"And the flood was upon the earth…" Since the generation of the Flood, there has never been a time like ours—an age of torrential rain, a deluge of heresy and corrupt thoughts that threaten to erase creation itself, wiping out a person's very sense of self. The modern media floods our minds, erasing our inner world, and these thoughts stem from the impurity of immorality, which then spreads its poison to every other part of a person. Reb Noson reveals that the tikkun for this is to sanctify one's thoughts—to think good and pure thoughts, with simplicity and innocence. The holiness of the covenant depends primarily on the holiness of the mind. Even amid the floodwaters that surround us, if we persist in thinking good thoughts, we can rise above them. And of course, to cry out and cry out without end—as King David pleaded in Tehillim (32): "For this, let every faithful one pray to You… at a time when the great waters will not reach him." After Rebbe Nachman revealed that such a flood of heresy would come upon the world, he also assured us that the rectification will come too. In the end, holiness will prevail! Just look at how some of those who returned from captivity speak now like great tzaddikim. We must keep crying out and begging HaShem for purity of mind—and then we'll be able to "grab" as much good as possible. Shabbat Shalom |
