| The government shutdown has impacted many areas of life for Americans including those in the Jewish Community. One emerging issue is the recent USDA announcement that SNAP benefits (food stamps) for November will be delayed. SNAP provides food benefits to low-income families and in some cases can be more than $1000 a month.
As a community we should be prepared for the possibility that many families will need our help. While benefits may be reinstated retroactively, it won't address the immediate needs of families to pay for groceries. The Agudah is in conversations with elected officials, community lay leaders and local chesed organizations about some possibilities, and we are attempting to gauge the potential impact on our community. Please click the link below to answer a three-question survey about SNAP benefits. If you are not a SNAP recipient you do not need to complete it, but either way please forward or share this survey with any of your contacts in the Chicago community that may be able to respond. |
