"And Yitzchak went out to meditate in the field." (Bereishis 24:63)

Rashi explains: "Lasu'ach"—from the expression of tefillah, prayer.

Rebbe Nachman once said, "I will lead people on a new path—but one that is also very old." This path is hitbodedut—personal prayer and secluded conversation with HaShem. It is not a modern idea; it is the ancient way of our forefathers.

In Likutey Moharan, Part II, Torah 11, Rebbe Nachman teaches that when a person goes out to the field to seclude himself and pour out his heart before HaShem, all the grasses of the field become included in his prayer and give him strength to pray. This is hinted to in the verse, "And Yitzchak went out to meditate in the field." His prayer drew power and assistance from the energy of the field itself, for lasu'ach (to meditate) comes from the same root as si'ach—a shrub or plant—showing that the grasses and plants join and support one's prayer.

We must fulfill this piece of advice with simplicity—to go out to the field, to pray, and to plead before HaShem about everything we are going through. Through this, we will merit tremendous blessings.
