Introduction

Beyond the halachos of yichud, there is a broader scope of prohibited interactions between genders, some of which can rise to the level of yeharaig v'al yaavor, one must accept death rather than transgress. Even when there is no physical contact, certain boundaries must be kept in verbal interactions, nonverbal communication, and even in one's own thoughts.

Points to Ponder

• Are there any forms of physical contact that are permitted between genders? For example, can a female nurse treat a male patient? • What is the halacha of shaking hands with the opposite gender in a business setting? • Can a male boss have a discussion with his female employee about her personal life? • Is it permissible for a female secretary to serve drinks to her boss?
