A Message from Rebbetzin Dr. Adina Shmidman

Dear Friend,

Today marks the yahrzeit of Rachel Imeinu. We remember her as a symbol of selfless greatness — the one who gave the signs to Leah and whose tears for Klal Yisrael continue to flow through the generations. Many among us have been privileged to visit her kever, where the depth of emotion and prayer of those gathered testifies to her enduring presence.

The Navi Yirmiyahu portrays Rachel Imeinu standing at the crossroads of Jewish history, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more." (Yirmiyahu 31:15) A mother's tears do not go unanswered. Though Yirmiyahu's prophecy speaks of the ultimate redemption, with the grace and goodness of Hashem we have witnessed a glimpse of its fulfillment in our time — in the miraculous return of the living hostages: וְשָׁ֥בוּ בָנִ֖ים לִגְבוּלָֽם, Your children shall return to their land. (Yirmiyahu 31:16)

In recent weeks and months, we have heard countless accounts of strength, faith, and heroism — of men and women who, even while held in the most depraved conditions, persevered in their avodat Hashem, maintained daily tefillah, and demonstrated extraordinary courage and dignity. Their stories remind us of the resilience and holiness that define our people.

As we commemorate the yahrzeit of Rachel Imeinu, may we be inspired to continue her legacy — and that of the returned hostages — whose unwavering faith and heartfelt tefillot guide us forward.

Let us take a few moments today to recite several perakim of Tehillim, pouring out our hearts in tefillah for the return of the remaining hostages' bodies and for peace in our land. May our voices join together and may the promise of "וְשָׁ֥בוּ בָנִ֖ים לִגְבוּלָֽם" be fulfilled speedily and in our days.
